todays pies plus plank beer
Today Tamaki baked lots of fantastic pies, I had a lamb and porter pie for lunch with a pint of Black Isle organic blonde lager which was fantastic. And later this afternoon we put on our 2nd tap beer which is Plank - Dunkel Weizenbock , check out the pics below !
New hand painted sign
One of the many jobs I have had over the years is a sign writinger , while today most signs are made from computers with stick on plastic letters made from computer cut vinyl. I was taught the old school method of hand painting , So this morning with some free time I started work on our new hanging sign , it's not quite finished as yet but it doesn't look too bad so far and should look great once finished hanging in front of our shop.
Black Isle Blonde
Just arrived Black Isle Blonde - here is what the lads at Black Isle brewery have to say about it !
A light biscuity blonde style beer loaded with New Zealand Organic Hallertau Aroma hops. Not probably, but definitely the best blonde beer in Scotland.
Is it a lager? Is it a pale ale? Does it even matter or does anyone care? Brewed with Hallertau hops for a grassy, Germanic aroma, this continental style beer carries a hint of honey sweetness which balances with the dry, crisp, refreshing palate and the biscuity finish. A genre defying classic.
Black Isle - Red Kite
We now have our first craft beer on tap which is Black Isle Red Kite from Scotland
A soaring amber ale with a perfect balance of citrus and malt
As the name suggests, this amber ale lifts the spirits by infusing classic British hops with a malty backbone to create this medium bodied thirst quencher. It's the perfect year-round beer - refreshing in summer and satisfying in winter.
A corker with a winter vegetable soup and equally at home when sharing your mouth with a Glenmorangie 18-year-old malt.
Welcome to albannach
Welcome to Albannach , a Celtic bar located in the center of Niigata City. Albannach was previously known as Cafe Velo and now continues under the same ownership as the center of all things Celtic in Niigata City or maybe even Niigata prefecture !. First up you are most likely wondering why its called Albannach . In Gaelic Albannach means Scottish, Scots and that is were my family came from before immigrating to New Zealand. My family clan links are Clan MaFarlane , Clan Gunn & Clan Lamont and I have always been proud of our family history. My partner Tamaki makes all the food here at Albannach and it is the only place in Niigata ken were you can buy traditional savoury pies and other traditional Celtic dishes , which are baked fresh everyday. Albannach also sells a variety of hand made craft items from local artists and made to order Celtic knitwear from Aran jerseys to Scottish bonnets etc. We are Niigata kens official Black Isle bar which means you can always find Organic beers & Ales on tap from the Black Isle brewery in Scotland and of course single malt Scottish whiskeys as well . Albannach also holds regular monthly Celtic music sessions which are always great fun , check out the page on this website for more info.
