Just arrived today and now on tap , Black Isle Yellowhammer 4.0 % ABV from Inverness in Scotland. This is what the team at Black Isle have to say about it -
A refreshing straw-coloured beer with a flinty, grapefruit aroma. A great session beer to slake the thirst. Not a brightly coloured carpenters tool in sight, but packed full of hops for a big hit. Winner of Best Beer and Cider Category of Soil Association 2008 & 2010 Organic Food Awards. SIBA "Champion Beer Of Scotland 2009". Commended in Beer and Cider Category of Soil Association 2009 Organic Food Awards. A few weeks back the local TV station TENY came and filmed at Albannach for about 3 and half hours, the producer of the show used to live in this area when growing up and is helping promote businesses by making a TV show highlighting some of the unique shops off the main street. Later on we will have a video of the show to upload, but in the meantime posted below are a few photos taken from last Sundays broadcast . The show featured several businesses and our spot was the second shop featured. They filmed Tamaki making traditional pies, customers enjoying lunch and Black Isle craft beer and thanks to our friends from the Celtic session we also played some live music as well , featuring the guitar, fiddle and the jaw harp . We have had a few new customers since the showed aired and a big thanks to the staff at TENY TV studio for taking the time to care about local businesses - something the local city office has not done in a long time !
Last night we held our annual Burns night, it was a small gathering but everybody enjoyed a traditional Burns supper , Tamaki made a Haggis and Asano san played his pipes and Bob MacPherson from Glasgow who is also a piper joined us for dinner as well. Thank everybody who came along - it was great fun. Recently here at Albannach we have started cooking classes , mostly Tamaki & I teach the classes but occasionally we invite someone to come along and teach as well. Last Sunday Tamaki taught 7 students how to make her famous apple pies, over the years Tamaki has cooked in both French & Italian restaurants here in Niigata city and for the last 3 years has studied traditional Celtic cooking and is now one of only 6 traditional pie makers in Japan. The Apple pie class taught the basics of making shortcrust pastry , the apple filling and baking. The students got to take a break and drank some herbal tea while the pastry was cooling down in the fridge and finally they enjoyed eating their hand made traditional pies , plus they got to take some home as well. The Apple pie class was so popular we are holding another soon. Pictured below are some photos that I took of the class 1st Celtic session for 2016 - This Friday the 8th from 7pm - 12am , come along to listen to the best Celtic musicians in Niigata city . Beginners most welcome !. Fantastic live music and great food and craft beer ! |
